Calculate electricity bill amount
Electricity is billed in Kilowatt-hours (kWh). To calculate the cost of an appliance: Cost = (Appliance Wattage × Hours Used / 1000) × Local Electricity Rate per kWh. Our calculator handles this formula automatically.
A Kilowatt-hour (kWh) is a unit of energy equal to 1,000 watts of power consumed continuously for one hour. For example, running a 1,000-watt hair dryer for 1 hour consumes exactly 1 kWh of electricity.
Heating and cooling systems (air conditioners, space heaters) are by far the largest consumers of home power, followed by water heaters, refrigerators, clothes dryers, and lighting.
