Calculate needed final exam score
Formula: Required Final = (Target Grade - Current Grade × (1 - Final Weight)) ÷ Final Weight. If you have 82% and want 85% with a 25% weighted final: (85 - 82×0.75) ÷ 0.25 = 94% needed.
If calculation shows >100%, your target grade isn't achievable with the final alone. Consider extra credit options, or adjust your target to a realistic goal.
Some courses use final exam replacement policies. If applicable, calculate both scenarios (with and without replacement) to see which benefits you more.
Add extra credit points to your current total before calculating. If you have 5 points extra credit on a 100-point scale, your effective current grade increases by 5%.
Use the formula in reverse with your minimum passing grade as target. This gives you the minimum final score needed—useful for stress management and study prioritization.
