In decimal notation, 1 TB is equal to 1,000 GB. In binary notation (often used by operating systems), 1 TB is equal to 1,024 GB.
A Gibibyte (GiB) is a binary unit of data storage equal to 2^30 bytes (1,073,741,824 bytes). Hard drive manufacturers use decimal Gigabytes (GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes), which is why a 500 GB drive shows up as approximately 465 GiB in Windows.
In standard decimal notation, there are 1,000 bytes in a Kilobyte. In binary notation, there are 1,024 bytes in a Kilobyte.
