Convert between digital storage units
In standard decimal notation (used by hard drive manufacturers), 1 GB is equal to 1,000 MB. In binary notation (used by operating systems like Windows), 1 GB is equal to 1,024 MB (which is technically a Gibibyte or GiB).
A Megabit (lowercase 'b') is a unit of data transmission speed, whereas a Megabyte (uppercase 'B') is a unit of data storage. One Megabyte consists of 8 Megabits. For example, a 100 Mbps internet connection download speed translates to a maximum of 12.5 MB/s.
These are units of data storage size: KB stands for Kilobyte, MB is Megabyte (1000 KB), GB is Gigabyte (1000 MB), and TB is Terabyte (1000 GB). Each step increases the storage capacity by a factor of 1000 (decimal) or 1024 (binary).
