Calculate fuel costs for trips
Fuel Cost = (Distance ÷ Mileage) × Fuel Price. For 500 km trip with 15 kmpl mileage and ₹100/L fuel: (500 ÷ 15) × 100 = ₹3,333. Add 10-20% buffer for city driving and AC usage.
Maintain steady speeds, avoid rapid acceleration/braking, keep tires properly inflated, remove excess weight, use cruise control on highways, and service your vehicle regularly. AC uses 5-10% more fuel.
Diesel cars are more fuel-efficient (20-30%) and diesel is slightly cheaper. Break-even depends on annual running—diesel makes sense for 15,000+ km/year. Consider maintenance costs too.
Full tank method: Fill completely, reset trip meter, drive normally, refill completely, note liters added. Mileage = Distance traveled ÷ Liters added. Track over multiple fills for accuracy.
City driving uses 30-50% more fuel due to stop-start traffic, idling, and low-gear driving. Highway driving at 60-80 kmph is most efficient. Very high speeds (100+ kmph) increase fuel consumption.
